This rod consists of medium tempered cane with dark brown silks tipped with dark red at the ferrules. The 5 1/2 inch Payne-style grip appears to have been slightly modified. Hardy-style aluminum downlinking hardware over the wood spacer. The stamp FE Thomas Special, Bangor ME is clean and boldly preserved on the nickel silver butt cap. The bottom of the butt cap is stamped H-70 making this the 70th rod made in 1941. It was completed on 2/11/1941 and sold to Wallace W. Mallery on 6/2/1942. The Swiss-style ferrules are sizes 11 and 17 with a perfect fit. In my hand, the action is medium-fast. Prior to sending me this rod, the owner had Steve Blake polish the varnish and hardware.
